Man found guilty of assault

Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced this week the conviction of Mark Wayne Jolley, 61, for assault causes bodily injury with a finding of family violence, which is a class A misdemeanor offense.

This brother and sister, both products of Terrell High School, recently graduated weeks apart as medical doctors. Dr. Ste’Von Voice is a 2021 graduate of the University of the Incarnate World School of Medicine in San Antonio and a 2007 graduate of Terrell High. Saturday’s Juneteenth celebration at Breezy Hill Park in Terrell comes just days after Congress passed legislation that would make the day that commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Texas a federal holiday.

City eyes rebuild of Temple Street

Residents of Terrell’s Stallings Addition are expected to see a vast improvement to Temple Street and hopefully relief from 18-wheeler traffic under a plan discussed at a Tuesday afternoon City Council work session.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas first learned they had been emancipated. The initial announcement to that effect was made by Union Army Gen. Gordon Granger in Galveston on June 19, 1865.

Success of Terrell vaccine hub celebrated

Dozens ventured out into the heat on Tuesday, June 15 to celebrate the success of the Kaufman County vaccination program that resulted in giving more than 30,000 vaccinations to Kaufman County residents.

These members of Terrell’s North Texas Longhorns track club are among those who have medaled at recent AAU-sanctioned track meets in Dallas, Desoto, Lancaster and Fort Worth. Formed in 2006, the North Texas Longhorns track club is in its 15th year in Terrell. The club welcomes young athletes ages 5-17 who want to participate in track & field. HANK MURPHY PHOTO
