State clarifies Kaufman/Henderson County Line

Body
A decades-long misinterpretation of the southern boundary of Kaufman County bordering Henderson County was clarified this month in correspondence from the State of Texas, General Land Office (GLO). After more than two years of Kaufman County’s historical research, document review and consultations with the office of the Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, the Deputy Director of the GLO Surveying Services wrote that the area in question is, in fact, not a part of Kaufman County, as is illustrated and confirmed in state records and archives.

Carlos Gale Self

Body
Carlos Gale Self 6/8/41 to 7/9/21 Gale Self, a long-time resident of Kaufman County went on the final journey Friday evening 7/9/21 surrounded by family of a long life well lived. He was born in Mclaine County Oklahoma on 6/8/41. The last of 6 children. Slick as most referred to him was raised in and around Purcell Oklahoma to an Irish Mother and Choctaw Father. On 12/19/59 he married the love of his life Kay Saundra Cary. They were able to walk through this existence for 61 years, together. Through many trials and tribulations they raised 3 boys and watched over a number of grand children throughout the years. Those that knew him would attest to his unique personality and keen intellect. He wore many hats throughout his life. These are but a few: Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Teacher, Soldier, Watchdog, Coach, Carpenter, Christian, Builder, Silversmith, Welder, Referee, Horse Trader, Advisor and Friend. A life long student of History, Human Nature and the Human Condition he made sure his Children and Grand Children understood the Cycle of Life and the Laws of Nature. Never a follower and always the reluctant leader, many of the youngsters of the area knew of Slick and Sam’s place and many would ask for help. He would always answer the call without fanfare. And usually would tell the kid, “Lets keep this between you and me. I don’t want people thinking I’m a nice guy”. When helping any stranger who was broke down, he never accepted anything and would take offense if they forced the issue with the retort, “That wouldn’t be very Christian of me”. 15 of his descendants go forth into the future with the lessons, actions and love that was his Life. He was preceded in death by his Father, Doss; Mother, Mattie; Brothers, Dale & Dorsey; Sisters, Catherine, Mary Lou & Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Kay Saundra; Sons, Kenneth, Dorsey, Michael; Grandchildren, Joshua, Saundra, Ashlie, William, Dorsey, Cheyenne, Dalton, Savannah, and Colton.
