Throwing down the gauntlet!

Terrell State Hospital Supt. Dr. Mark Messer and Mayor Rick Carmona engaged in some trash talking at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. Messer challenged the city to a softball game pitting TSH employees against city workers at Ben Gill Park on July 29 at 6:30 p.m. “You’re challenging the mayor to a softball game? You know I played athletics in high school,” said an incredulous Carmona. “Well, that might have been true some time ago, but this is now,” replied Messer. Carmona expressed his utmost confidence in a city victory. “We call those where I work delusions,” Messer retorted. Tickets are $5 and team shirts will be available for sale. Proceeds will benefit the Terrell Riter C. Hulsey Friends of the Library and Terrell State Hospital Volunteer Services Council. Game and team balls will be signed and one special ball will be donated for the Terrell Chamber Civic Auction in October. Stay tuned. HANK MURPHY PHOTO
