Remembrance Day ceremony set for Sunday at cemetery

Terrell’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony, hosted by the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum, will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Oakland Memorial Cemetery. The ceremony honors the 20 Royal Air Force cadets who died in training accidents during the School’s tenure from 1941-1945.

Truck collision in Poetry

Nobody was seriously injured in this collision between a pickup and dump truck on Monday evening at FM 986 and FM 3486/CR 249 in Poetry. After initial reports of head-on collision came in to the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, a CareFlite helicopter was placed on airborne standby. Miraculously, there were no injuries, so the helicopter was cancelled. TVFD units remained on scene for more than two hours while the dump truck was righted and the dirt removed from the road. Christmas Parade set for Dec. 11

After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Terrell’s annual Stanley Ballard Sr. Christmas Parade is back on and will take place on Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Chamber of Commerce is encouraging schools, churches and businesses to participate in this year’s parade. This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Vacation” and the grand marshals will be John Davidson and Don Ledbetter. A Holly Jolly Downtown Party will follow the event. Christine Bryant, longtime resident of Terrell, passed away into the presence of her Lord and Savior on the evening of October 30, 2021. Christine was born on March 23, 1926 to Claude Albert and Katie Frances (Bain) Baker, both of whom met her in Heaven along with her beloved husband, James Bryant; brothers: Bain, Jimmy and Kirby Baker and sisters, Sallie Bennett and Helen Hightower. As the hymn says, “What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see!” and we take comfort that our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother is also reunited with her family and friends again!

Oldcastle breaks ground on Innovation Center

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (OBE), a leading global supplier of architectural glass, metal and hardware, held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction of its new Innovation Center. The OBE Innovation Center will be located at 509 Airport Road in Terrell adjacent to the company’s production facilities. At approximately 18,500 square-feet, the new facility will also serve as the gateway into the OBE campus. The Innovation Center will house OBE’s Research and Development (R&D) Department and provide a hub for collaboration with glaziers, architects, contractors, academia, and other partners focused on the generation of glazing solutions. ‘Expunction Expo’ to help some erase criminal records

Kaufman County kicked off its first annual Kaufman County Expunction Expo this week for people who are eligible to have their criminal records erased. Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley and District Clerk Rhonda Hughey have teamed up to offer this service to those who might otherwise be held back from advancement opportunities by an ar rest or a minor criminal charge.

Terrell student shows overall grand champion steer at State Fair

When asked what goes into raising a grand champion steer, Angelica Lopez was quick with an answer: “A lot of hard work.” The 16-year-old Terrell High junior has put in the time and effort to win two livestock shows back to back this year. She won at Tyler during the East Texas Fair in September, and last month she captured an even more prestigious title with her longhorn steer at the Texas State Fair, where the animal was named Overall Grand Champion.
