SWCC, TVCC provide free scholarships to THS graduates

Both institutions of higher education in Terrell offer incentives to Terrell High School students that allow them to earn a degree with no out-of-pocket expenses. Southwestern Christian College offers a Local Incentive Scholarship program that pays full tuition and fees for government classified low-income students who live in Terrell and commute to campus.

Daylight Saving Time will come to an official end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, when we set our clocks to fall back one hour. Of course, nobody sits up to do it at that time; we turn our clocks back before we go to sleep on Saturday night, or we do it in a panic on Sunday morning.

What is your situation? Wise coaches seek wise counsel. Whether taking over a downtrodden program or a perennial winner, it is wise to talk to others who have been those positions. How about being in the playoffs for the first time, consecutive times, or finishing the season with a losing record, I believe it is wise to visit with professionals who have been in those positions and successfully handled the situation.

Cody Thomas Daniel went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Oc-tober 28, 2021. He was loved beyond measure and will be missed more than he could have ever imagined. Cody leaves behind a great legacy of love in the form of those who loved him. He is survived by his son Corbin Lee Daniel and his mother Heather Shoemake, Cody’s mother Melissa Smith and husband Ray, father, Thomas (Tommy) Tidmore Jr. and wife Tanya, Father Jimmy Martin and wife Pricilla, his beloved sister Caitlin LaPoint and husband James, brothers Chris Tidmore, Jayden Smith, Justin Martin, Dylan McCollum, Tanner Martin, Chris Martin, and sister Devan Loyola. Billy Jon “Bill” Marshall (83) was reunited with his Lord and Savior on the morning of October 31, 2021. A soft-spoken man with a servant’s heart, the primary loves of his life were God, his family, and his sweetheart, Patsy Jean (Sparks), to whom he was married for 61 years.

Ronald “Ron” Edward Rutledge

Ronald “Ron” Edward Rutledge, age 80, and long-time resident of the Rockwall/ McLendon-Chisholm area passed away on October 25, 2021. He was born September 9, 1941, in Los Angeles, CA, to Clovis and Ruth Rutledge. Ron grew up in Richardson, TX, and graduated from Richardson High School in 1960. He met his high school sweetheart, Leilani Mooney and they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. Ron was an accomplished business leader. He led Vistawall, an international commercial door and window manufacturer, for over 30 years. Ron was very patriotic and as such, he was a strong supporter of the second amendment. Ron was a woodworking master and made many custom pieces for his home, and family and friends. He was passionate about playing golf and the comradery of his golfing buddies. His presence will be deeply missed. Ron is survived by his beloved Labrador Retriever: Coco; sons: Jeff Rutledge and wife Lauren of Wills Point, TX, Todd Rutledge of Wentzville, MO, and Chris Rutledge of Austin, TX; daughter: Michelle Doss of Austin, TX; grandchildren: Conner Rutledge, Caroline Rutledge, Carly Rutledge, Leyton Doss, Michael Gray, Cole Gray, Hayden Smith, and Hunter Smith; great-granddaughter: Aurora Rutledge; and siblings: Linda Vaughn and husband Ronnie, and Teresa Howe and husband Tom. He was preceded in death by his wife: Leilani Rutledge; son-in-law: Tommy Doss; and his parents. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held 12:30pm Monday, November 1, 2021, at Reflections at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Location, officiated by Pastor Steve Swofford.

Juliette Desirree Harwell-McKelvey

Juliette was born on November 19, 1969 in Greenville Texas to Jack and Vera Jean Harwell. She went to be with her Lord and Saviour in Tyler, Texas after a brief illness on October 17, 2021. She is survived by her husband, Gary McKelvey of Whitehouse, TX, step children, Jessie McKelvey, and Misti McKelvey-Bradshaw of Tyler; and by her mother, Vera Jean Harwell, children, Christopher and Jacqueline Stewart all of Marlton NJ, brothers, Jack Raymond Harwell of Dorchester, TX and Joel Marcus Harwell of Greenville, TX as well as beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack D. Harwell, sister-in-law, Dana Harwell, as well as all her grandparents. Graveside services will be at Weaver Cemetery November 13th at 2:00 p.m.

Halloween comes to Terrell

Trick-or-Treaters by the hundreds descended on Moore Avenue on Oct. 29 for Terrell’s annual Downtown Trick-or-Treat. Witches, dragons, ghouls, dinosaurs and gobs of other creepy characters took to the street looking for treats from Moore Avenue merchants.
