United Way of Kaufman County to host blood drive

More than 15 million pints of blood are transfused in this country each year. That exceeds 40 thousand pints daily. Hospitals in north, central and east Texas are using only a fraction of that amount, but Carter BloodCare still requests 1,000 volunteer blood donors each day to keep pace with local hospital demands.

Museum presents free program on preserving family heirlooms

Forfeiture funds donated to Advocacy Center

The Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office donated forfeiture funds in the amount of $3,144 to the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) during the January 11 Commissioners’ Court meeting. “As a leader, we must be diligent to provide the best for our county,” said Pct.

Officials shift COVID-19 plans

Local health and safety leaders were forced to call an audible to their plans for a fast and free local COVID-19 testing site due to overwhelming demand and traffic. Initial plans had called for a free local testing site to be established at the Shops in Terrell from 9 a.m.

Unique ways to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Few people in American history have had as strong an impact on the United States as Martin Luther King, Jr., the civil rights leader who was slain in 1968 at the age of 39. Through his message of nonviolence and civil disobedience as a means to advancing civil rights for all people, King changed the lives of millions. Those changes that are still felt today, nearly half a century after his death.

Around Town: Happenings in and around Terrell

Jan. 17: MLK Celebration of Terrell, Inc. will be hosting a free program honoring Dr. King beginning at 6 p.m. at the Jamie Foxx Performing Arts Center. The program will include music, recitations, praise dancing and community service awards. All are welcome to attend. Paper masks will be available and social distancing is encouraged. Representatives from the No. 1 British Flying Training Museum offered a big “thank you” to the Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative Charitable Foundation after the organization recently delivered a $500 contribution. Executive Director Patrick Hotard, right, accepted the donation on behalf of the museum from TVEC Energy Management Advisor Chris Walker. The donation was made possible by TVEC’s Operation Round Up initiative. Operation Round Up is a voluntary program that allows TVEC members to round up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar amount. That rounded up portion goes to the TVEC Charitable Foundation to make grants to local, charitable organizations. Museum officials also thanked TVEC customers for their generosity.
