Well the dog days of summer are here for sure! Hard to believe that there is anything gardening related that can be done in this heat - but there is and if done will reap great rewards now and into the fall.

How did your civic engagement lead to your volunteer roll in municipal government? Over the years, I enjoyed being a soccer coach, baseball coach, TARA youth baseball board member, voice of the Fighting Tiger Band, Band Parent VP, Band Parent President, voice of Terrell Tiger baseball, Terrell Athletic Booster, THS Cheer Booster and Terrell Parks board member; I was clearly hooked on civic engagement in Terrell . After years of volunteering in youth sports, I joined the parks board in 2014.

Margarita Maria “Markie” Cowley Rank, was born Nov. 17, 1950, in Havana, Cuba, to Yolanda P. and Luis M. Cowley M.D. She died July 1, 2022, in Dallas, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Markie died surrounded by family and friends.

United Way of Kaufman County will be conducting it annual Agency Grant reviews in February 2023. The Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course is held each year during the first week of August and has grown into one of the largest beef cattle educational events in the world. Each year over 1,800 beef cattle ranchers from Texas and across the U.S. travel to attend the event that features over 20 different concurrent sessions and a trade show with more than 120 vendors.

The Kiwanis Club of Terrell hosted its regularly scheduled weekly meeting July 19, and welcomed Patty Yocum of Terrell as its newest member. Kiwanis, the largest service club, has clubs in most countries around the world. Anyone interested in becoming a member may find them on Facebook or their website.

Terrell’s rapid growth and changing rental landscape took center stage Tuesday night as city council members discussed the possibility of adopting a rental registration ordinance at some point in the future.

Members of the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department had their hands full during the early morning hours July 8, responding to an illegal burn that got out of control and threatened nearby homes. According to a narrative published on the TVFD Facebook page, firefighters were dispatched just before 1 a.m.

The Terrell Police Department took to social media this week, requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two females suspected of stealing items from a business located on American Way. In a Facebook post department officials stated, “On July 7, 2022 at approximately 1639 hours, two Hispanic females entered Ulta located at 670 American Way in Terrell.
