Dear Editor: All I wanted was peace of mind within my living space. No drugs being bought, sold, handed off out of the windows of my neighbor’s apartment nor in the parking lot in broad daylight, no off-color verbal threats and clean-living spaces; just to name a few.

Kaufman man sentenced to life for child abuse

District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced today that a Kaufman County jury found Jackie Allen Easley, 68, guilty of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. After a three-day trial before Honorable Judge Casey Blair in the 86th District Court of Kaufman County, a jury found Easley guilty, and the Honorable Judge Blair assessed punishment at Life in Prison due to a prior conviction for sexual assault of a child. Jackie Easley’s victim was only 11 years old when he began sexually abusing her.

Man injured in tree trimming accident

A man was injured Tuesday afternoon while trimming a tree on Walnut Street in Terrell. Terrell Public Information Officer Alison Walker stated that the man sustained injuries after a tree limb fell on his head.

Kaufman County commemorates 175 years

County officials were in the spirit of celebration as Kaufman County was recognized for 175 years Oct. 10 at the commissioners’ court meeting. Commissioners and County Judge Jakie Allen wore period dress from 1848, the time of the county’s birth, and special visitors Texas Representative Keith Bell, Christopher Morris of Senator Bob Hall’s office and Representative Lance Gooden’s District Director Jennifer Alden attended to honor the occasion.
