Genesis Center North Texas For 24 years, Genesis Center North Texas in Kaufman, has been a shelter for women and children in crisis. Our faith-based, non-profit facility serves women who are survivors of domestic abuse, dealing with housing insecurity and/ or recovering from substance abuse.

Trustees call for May school bond election

Terrell ISD Communications On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Terrell ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to call a bond election to provide more academic options for students as the district continues to grow. If approved, this bond would directly impact every student and campus in Terrell ISD while also strengthening safety and security across the district.

Voucher bill passes Senate, arrives in House

TEXAS PRESS ASSOCIATION STATE CAPITAL HIGHLIGHTS A bill to implement school vouchers in Texas sailed through the Senate largely on party lines last week and now awaits consideration in the House, the Austin American-Statesman reported. House Speaker Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, said he believes there are enough votes in that chamber to pass the legislation, which was defeated a half-dozen times in 2023 by a coalition of Democratic and rural Republican members.

For over 40 years, the Denny Rohe Memorial BBQ Cook-Off has been a cherished tradition in Terrell, bringing together our community for great food, friendly competition, and lasting memories during the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. This year, the event will move from its long-standing location at Lions Club Lane off of Ben Gill Park to a new date and venue—Sept. 27, 2025, at the Terrell Municipal Airport. The cook-off will now serve as the featured event of a new Family Day at the Terrell Municipal Airport, organized by the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum.

County agent to discuss spring planting at BFTS Museum

As a service to the community, the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum has invited Kaufman County Extension Agent Tommy Phillips to present a program on the challenges of spring planting at 6 pm February 20 at the museum, 119 Silent Wings Boulevard in Terrell. The program is free and open to the public.
