Sustainable city not moving forward in Kaufman County

editor@terrelltribune.com The proposed “sustainable city” in Kaufman County is no longer moving forward according to local Congressman Lance Gooden. “I’m pleased to report the following update on the controversial Kaufman County development that has rightly worried so many in our community,” Gooden said in a press release.

It seems I am either making ready for my next outdoor adventure or unpacking and stowing my gear from the last outing. I imagine this is par for most folks that enjoy fishing, hunting, photographing wildlife or just about any outdoor endeavor.

Steil, Simon named as Public Servant Honorees in 250 Champions Initiative

Public Information Officer, City of Terrell City Secretary Dawn Steil and Neighborhood Services Director Denish Simon were selected as honorees in the 250 Champions Initiative, sponsored by the National Academy of Public Administration and LocalGov250. Steil and Simon were chosen from hundreds of submissions from all 50 states as well as Washington, D.C. and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. Peers in the public sector submitted nominations which were reviewed and ultimately named by a selection committee from the National Academy of Public Administration and Local-Gov250.

First Christian Church celebrates 150 years

May 3rd of 2026 will mark an important event in the life of First Christian Church as it comes together to celebrate the 150th year as a congregation. Beginning with worship services starting at 10:50 am and then the congregation and guests will move over to the Mull Family Life Center for food and fellowship. A few of the dignitaries that are planning to attend include Mayor Carmona, Regional Minister Andy Magnum, Area Minister Jennifer Steele-Lantis and others. The public is invited to tour through the historical room and view some of the history of the church and city.

KAUFMAN COUNTY DAY IN AUSTIN

City of Terrell staff and elected officials joined other county leaders in Austin March 22-23 for Kaufman County Day. City of Terrell Mayor Pro Tem Phil Robison served as Master of Ceremonies for a legislative breakfast, featuring Kristy Carr, Associate Commissioner Health and Specialty Care System- Health and Human Services Commission. Carr gave an update on construction of the new Terrell State Hospital facility slated to open in 2027. Additional photos on 8A.

Vandals snag win over Tigers
