The celebration of inclusion, determination and heart was on full display with Terrell ISD Special Olympics on April 10. The students showed what it truly means to be champions, demonstrating courage, teamwork and joy every step of the way. Through sports, they build confidence, create friendships and remind us all that anything is possible. Special Olympics helps empower athletes to shine both on and off the field.

Library Director receives Achievement of Excellence Award

Riter C. Hulsey Public Library Director Rebecca House was presented with a 2025 Achievement of Excellence award from the Texas Municipal Library Association by Mayor Rick Carmona and members of the City Council during the April 7 city council meeting. The library is among only 101 of the 516 public libraries in the state earning this accreditation for excellence in 10 categories. This is the 3rd consecutive year HPL has been awarded this honor. Mayor Rick Carmona also read a proclamation designating April 1925 as National Library Week.

Aging and the outdoors

This week let’s discuss a subject that directly affects all of us sooner or later- how to continue to enjoy our outdoor endeavors as we grow older. In my mid-seventies I feel qualified to share some experiences that might be beneficial to some of those who are a bit long in the tooth. If you are a whipper snapper in your prime, stick with me- the good Lord willing, you will someday be a ‘senior’ hunter, fisherman or outdoor enthusiasts and take my word for it, the years will fly by much faster than you think!
