Terrell native wins JAMBALOO Music prize

Terrell High School graduate Matthew McNeal has captured one of the biggest honors of his musical career, winning the inaugural JAMBALOO Music Prize and a $20,000 cash award. The regional prize recognizes the top full-length album released in the previous calendar year by a Dallas-Fort Worthbased artist or band.

Terrell State Hospital celebrates topping out

editor@terrelltribune.com A big step was taken toward the completion of Terrell State Hospital as they celebrated their topping out on Monday, June 29. Construction firm Robins and Morton joined Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) for the topping out as they marked a significant milestone with the final concrete placement, signifying the structural completion of the project of the Terrell State Hospital replacement facility.

Excellence Foundation surpasses $3 million in grants

The 2025-2026 school year marked a historic milestone for the Terrell ISD Excellence Foundation as the organization surpassed $3 million in total grants awarded since its founding in 2009. With a mission to inspire excellence, innovation, and academic achievement across Terrell Independent School District, the Excellence Foundation has now awarded 312 grants supporting students and educators throughout the district. This year alone, the Foundation invested nearly $400,000 in educational opportunities, awarding 52 grants totaling $386,332.

County culvert to help road drain near golf course

russell@themonitor.net June 30, Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court approved Precinct 4’s Road and Bridge Department to partially go on private property near Peeltown to install a culvert system to replace a 40-yearold setup that its commissioner said is causing problems.
