Hulsey Public Library Director Rebecca Anderson snips the ceremonial ribbon Tuesday evening, marking the official start to the library’s Summer Reading Program. Hundreds of people turned out for an Activities Fair, which featured fun and games for children, informational booths, vendors, bounce houses and more. Anderson expects 600-800 children to register for this year’s Summer Reading Program, which conducts special reading activities Tuesday through Friday. The summer program tailors many of its lessons to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) education, according to Anderson. Craft sentenced to 35 years in sexual predator case

A Kaufman County man who sexually preyed on young girls via Snapchat has been sentenced to 35 years in prison by a Rockwall County district judge. Taylor Craft, 26, was arrested in March 2019 after a three-month investigation that began in Connecticut and extended to Rockwall, Kaufman, and Dallas counties.

Police raids yield drugs, fi rearms, arrests

Four people were arrested and firearms and alleged narcotics were seized during separate police raids Tuesday, June 1, in Terrell and Forney. According to a news release from Terrell police, narcotic investigators from Terrell police, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and DEA-Dallas as well as a joint Terrell-Forney SWAT team and a Kaufman County Sheriff Department SWAT team worked on a joint investigation and executed search warrants in the 1100 block of S.
