Kaufman Co. Aggies to assemble for muster April 21
Aggies from the Kaufman County area will gather on Wednesday, April 21 for Aggie Muster, an occasion for Aggies to enjoy fellowship and to honor Aggies who have died in the past year. This year’s muster will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Kaufman Civic Center located at 607 E. Fair St.
“The Kaufman County A&M Club is one of the most active in the state,” said Michelle Sjerven, this year’s muster chair. “We are particularly proud of the over $770,000 in scholarships we have given in the last 22 years to 550 incoming freshmen and returning students. Aggie Muster is an opportunity not only to gather with fellow Aggies and friends but to celebrate those Aggies who have lost their lives but are never forgotten.
“As we do every year, we will come together to celebrate our Aggie bond and to honor those we lost in the last year,” said Sjerven,
The Texas Aggie Muster tradition, which spans more than a century, will be observed in more than 300 locations around the world. Beginning as a reunion in 1883, Aggie Muster has grown to be one of Texas A&M's most revered traditions. Muster honors the memories of A&M men and women whose deaths prevent them from answering Roll Call at this year's muster. As each name is called, a friend or family member will answer “Here!” symbolizing that their memory lives on in the hearts of Aggies everywhere.
This year’s muster will feature dinner catered by Julio’s Market in Kaufman, a beautiful rendition of Taps, in echo, performed by Don Harrell and his daughter Anndee Harrell, and a presentation titled “Aggie Muster: It happens all the time” by the senior Associate Director and “Voice” of the nationally famous Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band, Col. Jay Brewer (’81). Brewer has been the recipient of the President’s Meritorious Service Award and the John J. Koldus Faculty and Staff Achievement Award. He and his wife, Judy (’85), are the proud parents of James (24) and Natalie (21).
