Maxcine Ruby Miller
1946-2025
Maxcine Ruby Miller, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning the 30th of June 2025 in Terrell, Texas. She was surrounded by her family and many friends as she moved on to her great reward.
Maxcine was born to Louis and Dorthy Moran in Lufkin, Texas. Her parents preceded her in death as did her brother James Edward Moran who died in childbirth. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Michael, her two sons and their spouses, Max and Kristi, and Steve and Aine, her 6 grandchildren, Alyssa, Kacee, Maegan, Luke, Olivia and Oliver, her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and James Kemp, and many more cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Maxcine was not just the matriarch of her family, but also an accomplished professional, having had a long and distinguished career retiring from the United States Postal Service in 2003 after 31 years. During her tenure at the post office, she held numerous supervisory and leadership roles, the last being Labor Relations Specialist.
But Maxcine was not done! The daughter of a preacher and a preacher’s wife, she loved the Lord and loved to serve. After her retirement from the post office, she began her second career as church secretary at Terrell First Assembly where she worked full time until late 2024, retiring again after over 20 years serving her church, her friends, and her community. While at the church she organized and managed fundraisers, special events, luncheons, dinners, and parties. In addition to her secretarial duties for many years, Maxcine led the church’s charity food bank operation called Adopt a Block. This organization fed thousands upon thousands of those in need in Terrell and the surrounding area primarily with volunteers. If you have lived in Terrell during the last 25 years and were ever in need of a meal or knew someone who did, you knew the name Maxcine Miller.
She was a musician who had to teach herself the piano as a young girl when her father needed someone to play the piano for service. She was an awardwinning baker winning numerous baking contests with her famous chocolate pie. She planned professional level events fulfilling requests to organize or cater for weddings, funerals, parties, luncheons and more. She hosted many a bible study at her home and was a member of the Primetimers Group at the church. She loved children and spent many years teaching children’s church throughout her adult life. She had energy, and a mental and physical fortitude that could be matched by few, she was dependable, trustworthy, and selfless. Maxcine refused to believe that anything she set her mind to, could not be done. For all these reasons and more Rick Carmona, the Mayor of Terrell, in honor of her years of selfless service and love for all people proclaimed December 12th of 2023 Maxcine Miller Day.
Most of all she loved her family and above all, her grandchildren. Maxcine was deeply loved by her husband, her sons, and her grandkids and she would always say that her grandkids were her life.
A loving wife to her husband, a wonderful mother to her two sons, and a wonderful friend and mentor to so many of her church family and the greater Terrell community, Maxcine will be missed by all who knew her.
Maxcine did not want a funeral. She wanted a party. We are honoring her wishes. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to TFA Church, 203 Main Street, Terrell, Texas 75160.
