Risingers Country Store Owner Marie Risinger was honored by Mayor Rick Carmona, Mayor Pro-Tem Donna Renee Anderson and Council member Jorge Vargas on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at a surprise reception honoring her for being the first Terrell business owner to earn a Texas Treasure Business Award designation from the Texas Historical Commission. Mayor Carmona presented a proclamation naming Aug. 4 “Marie Risinger Day” and State Representative Keith Bell presented her with a Texas Treasure plaque which recognizes businesses that have been in operation for 50 years or more. Among those participating in the event were Mrs. Risinger’s family, her Tuesday morning coffee group and representatives from the Terrell Chamber of Commerce and the Terrell Heritage Museum. The event was even more special to Mrs. Risinger because it fell on the eve of her 92nd birthday. See more photos on page 2A.
