Shirley Martinez Whiteside passed away on August 13, 2021. She was born November 22, 1958 in Dallas, Texas.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father and mother, Panfilo Velez Martinez and Mary Esther Rivera Martinez and older brother John Robert Martinez.

She is survived by her husband of over 25 plus years, Mike Whiteside, her son Shawn Paul Berry and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Kathlyn Whiteside. Shirley is survived by six siblings: Panfilo Jr. Martinez, Diane Barron, Mary Elizabeth Hernandez, Laurie Martinez-Weiderman, Gwen Martinez and Kelly Martinez Mike and Shirley have lived the last 35 years in Terrell, Texas. Shirley grew up in Dallas and attended Woodrow Wilson High School in 1979. Shirley had a long career in the restaurant business as a waitress and restaurant manager. She worked for two major hot spots in Terrell: PD’s and Cole Mountain which is how many grew to know and love her. She enjoyed getting to know her clients, seeing them come in and celebrate their special days which led to her always making time for holidays. She helped at the church food pantry and was one of the most giving persons you could have known. She was always buying different things for her family and friends and would even give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. Shirley became ill with breast cancer in the early 2000’s and became cancer free for nearly ten years. In 2018 she learned the cancer had returned and continued strong in her chemo treatments for the last 2 years. Even during those last two years, she continued to celebrate holidays and while she stayed safe at home during COVID; she used her cell phone to check on others.

Shirley will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends.

Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 18, 2021 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.maxslaytonfunerals.com.
