A TALE OF HOGS AND HAWGS

Body
Summer is not done yet, but I always consider the opening of dove season as the beginning stages of fall. Oh, the temperature is usually well into the 90s in early September, but there is often an early cool front or rain from a tropical depression to give us a foretaste of what’s to come in October.

Downrigging: Deadly technique for big fish

Body
My first experience with using downriggers for stripers and hybrid stripers occurred 30 years ago. I was fishing with a very experienced guide that specialized in using downriggers, a very effective method of trolling lures at a specific depth using a heavy metal ball to maintain the proper depth.

Experience saves the day at Lake Texoma

Body
Catching fish can be a challenging endeavor especially when conditions change quickly and patterns that have been as constant as the Polar star fail to produce bites. Such was the case with a striper fishing trip at Lake Texoma last week with my friends at Striper Express.

Warm weather trophy cattin’

Body
For decades at Lake Tawakoni, the ‘trophy’ blue catfish season began with the first cooling north winds in October and ended with the spring warm up. Fall and winter were the designated time to go hunting for a giant blue catfish.

A fisherman is gonna fish

Body
For the past several months, my friends, Jeff Rice, Larry Weishuhn, and I looked forward to our annual trip to Lake Texoma to catch topwater stripers with Bill and Chris Carey’s Striper Express Guide Service.

Lots going on in the outdoors

Body
I’ve got several topics I wish to share with you this week including a couple of tasty outdoor recipes as well as a fishing pattern that is currently underway on a lake near you. THE SHAD SPAWN TRIGGERS GOOD BANK FISHING: Shad are currently spawning which triggers one of the best shallow water bites of the year for several species.
