The Terrell cross country program etched its name into the record books last season, finishing the year with the varsity boys program qualifying to compete at Regionals for the first time in school history.

Competitive sports have a lot to offer young people. In addition to exposing children to the thrill of competition, competitive sports can set a foundation for a lifetime of healthy living. One study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine in 2014 found that afterschool physical activity programs were the most effective strategy to reduce childhood obesity among children between the ages of six and 12.

Cheerleading can be a physically demanding activity full of stunts, dancing and tumbling. Although it was initially designed to entertain and motivate crowds during sporting events, cheerleading has become a competition in its own right and features seasoned athletes who dedicate themselves and commit to yearround rigorous training.

Scholastic sports participation benefits student athletes in myriad ways. Competitive sports teaches students how to cope with the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, while providing firsthand experience that emphasizes the value of working with others in pursuit of a common goal. Student athletes often apply these lessons long after their playing days have ended, benefitting from their experiences in competitive sports throughout their lives.

The North Texas Longhorns Summer Track Club of Terrell made its way to Burleson recently, squaring off against some of the top athletes from across the state for an opportunity to advance to the AAU Junior Olympics in North Carolina at the AAU Regional Meet.

The Terrell athletic program was well represented at the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet in Austin last week with two competitors, sprinter Ja’Naria Jackson and shot put competitor Che’Merian Richmond, squaring off against some of the top athletes from across the state.

The Terrell Lady Tiger soccer program was dominant throughout much of the 2022 season, winning the program’s first-ever district title before coming up just short in the bi-district round to the Caddo Mills Lady Foxes.

The Terrell track and field team made its way to the Commerce April 29-30, competing against some of the top athletes from across the area at the annual Class 4A Region II Meet. Terrell more than held its own at the event, qualifying two athletes for the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet at the University of Texas in Austin May 12-14.

The Terrell Lady Tigers saw their 2022 season officially draw to a close last week, coming up short in back-to-back bi-district round playoff games against the Brownsboro Beareattes. Game one would go down to the wire as Terrell and Brownsboro both scuffled offensively April 28.

The Terrell Tiger track and field program returned to a familiar place last week, following up a run at the District 13-4A Meet in Sunnyvale April 13-14 with a return trip to the home of the Raiders for the District 13-4A and District 14-4A Area Meet April 21-22. Final team standings in the varsity girls division included Kaufman winning first with 134 points, followed by Terrell with 100 points, Canton with 90 points, Sunnyvale with 64 points, Brownsboro with 63 points, Van with 55 points, Mabank with 29 points, Wills Point with 10 points, Nevada
