Youth was the name of the game for the Terrell volleyball program in 2020 as the team hit the court with just two seniors, seven juniors, two sophomores and two freshman throughout most of the season.

Participation in sports can be an important component of a student's overall school experience. So it should come as no surprise that the number of participants in high school sports increased for the 29th consecutive year in 2017-18, according to the annual High School Athletics Participation Survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

Participation in scholastic sports can be great for students, making a positive impact on their school careers both on the field and in the classroom. Sports can keep athletes physically fit, help develop confidence and assist students with making friends. However, as with all physical activities, safety must be made a priority by athletes, their parents and their coaches.

Schools are often at the heart of a community. Schools are centralized places where people gather and friendships are formed. Creating an environment where school spirit is strong can be crucial to building a thriving community.

The Terrell Tigers were slated to kick off the 2021 season on the road, traveling to Tommy Standridge Stadium in Carrollton for a showdown with the Newman Smith Trojans Aug. 27. The Tigers have shown marked improvement over the past two years, seeing their points per game average increase from 14.4 in 2019 up to 26 in 2020. After weeks of two-a-day workouts and scrimmages, the first Friday night of the 2021 regular season is now less than a week away for football programs across the state of Texas. Terrell, which finished last season with a 3-7 record overall, including a 2-4 mark in District 7-4A play, will officially kick off its season on the road against Carrollton Newman Smith Aug.

A big thank you to our cheerleaders and Ms. Crissy Meador who have been working hard decorating the school to welcome back teachers and students.

The Terrell Tigers had their first opportunity to tangle with an opponent not dressed in red and white this week, scrimmaging the Sunnyvale Raiders in Sunnyvale Aug. 13.

The summer months often provide teachers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the classroom setting. For Terrell ISD teacher Shauna Hall, summer vacation meant training for and competing against some of the best athletes in the world at the 70.3- mile Ironman Hawaii event in June.
