Riders receive warm welcome on cross-country trek

DAVID KAPITAN editor@terrelltribune.com Mother Nature made its presence known during last year’s Run for the Wall stop in Terrell, bringing less than ideal conditions as hundreds of riders and participants passed through the area in an effort to raise awareness for several causes related to veterans and their families. Things would prove to be markedly different when longtime and new riders returned to Terrell, greeted May 21 with warmer temperatures, no rain and comfortable cloud cover.

Increase in gas prices reported statewide

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 4.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.06/g May 15, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 28.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 106.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.0 cents in the last week and stands at $3.97 per gallon.

TxDOT launches motorcycle safety campaign

As motorcycle fatalities continue to rise and the spring weather draws more riders to Texas roadways, TxDOT is urging drivers to look twice and be considerate on the road around motorcycle riders. Amy Jo Miller was enjoying a ride on the back of her boyfriend’s motorcycle in Bell County when an inattentive driver turned left in front of them, hitting the bike and throwing her across the road.
