The Terrell Chamber of Commerce’s 40th Annual Civic Auction was held on October 16, 2021. This year’s event was a great success. It was very exciting to be able to hold a live event with over 650 people attending. The civic auction’s theme of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, worked wonderfully, as the event was held in the original hangar that was built on Airport Road for the British Flyers. A great time was had by attendees.

This year, more than ever, it’s important to shop locally to support our local small businesses. American Express created a national campaign encouraging shopping small in 2010, in the midst of a recession. That’s when Small Business Saturday was born. One great opportunity to do that here in Terrell is during our Shop Home for the Holidays event, just after Thanksgiving. This year there are two days to shop – Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

With the opener of the general deer season this weekend in North Texas, many of us have been making last minute preparations for upcoming hunts. On many ranches managed by Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD), deer hunting began in early October and hunters were allowed to use all legal sporting arms to harvest deer but for the majority of us across most of Texas, November 6 is the official opener of what we old timers used to call ‘gun season’.

Texas A&M Forest Service encourages Texans to protect our lands and all that we love this hunting season by being mindful of activities that may cause a wildfire. From 2016 to 2020, Texas A&M Forest Service responded to 3,742 wildfires burning nearly 1.5 million acres.

Voters approved all eight Texas constitutional amendments on Nov. 2.

Members of the Terrell City Council recently received these white pumpkins from the TISD’s Global Leadership Academy K-Kids. The GLA is a specialized K-5 school of choice within the TISD that provides an alternative educational experience unique from a traditional campus. No longer will Kaufman County residents have to wait for hours for election results. The county has implemented new reporting software that will automatically upload election results as they are reported.

Both institutions of higher education in Terrell offer incentives to Terrell High School students that allow them to earn a degree with no out-of-pocket expenses. Southwestern Christian College offers a Local Incentive Scholarship program that pays full tuition and fees for government classified low-income students who live in Terrell and commute to campus.
