The Captain James Burleson Chapter United States Daughters of 1812 will hold a grave marking ceremony for Private John Baker, veteran of the War of 1812, in Baker Cemetery, 7581 County Road 4042, Kemp, Texas on 6 September 2025 at 2 p.m.

The Texas Senate approved the new congressional map and sent the bill to Governor Greg Abbott. A lawsuit challenging the redrawn districts as being racially discriminatory was filed before Abbott could sign the bill, which he has promised to do soon.
