The Terrell Lady Tigers had their hands full last week, opening District 13-4A play at home against a Farmersville Lady Farmers squad ranked first overall in the most recent Texas Girls Coaches Association Weekly 4A Volleyball Poll.

Poetry Christian standout student-athlete Branndi Alsobrook was joined by family, friends and teammates as she signed her letter of intent to play volleyball collegiately at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie Sept. 8. Poetry Christian Athletic Director James Valle stated, “Only 6 percent of girls high school volleyball players move on to play any level of college volleyball. She’s a excellent talent, student and teammates.”

The Terrell Tigers have been a team on a mission throughout the opening weeks of the 2021 season, easily outpacing their opponents behind hard-nosed running and stellar line play. Terrell’s matchup with Wilmer-Hutchins proved to be more of the same as the Tigers dominated from start to finish to score a 40-13 win in their home opener Sept.

TIGERS RUN WILD IN WIN

The Terrell Tigers moved one step closer to matching their win total for the entire 2020 season last week, scoring a dominant 40-13 win over the Wilmer-Hutchins Eagles. The Terrell ground game played a key role in the victory, churning out 386 yards and six touchdowns on 36 carries. Runners compete at Kaufman Invitational

The Terrell cross country team took to the road last week, traveling to Kaufman to compete at the Run with the Lions 4A and Under Meet. Terrell finished 10th overall in the varsity boys division out of 13 competing schools with 235 total points, behind Kaufman, Commerce, Eustace, Wills Point, Kilgore, Canton, Mabank, Grace Community and Sunnyvale, and ahead of Emory Rains, Caddo Mills and Farmersville.

The Terrell Tigers will have their work cut out for them in 2021, competing in a district that contains three teams ranked in the top-7 of the state according to Texas High School football and two others that should be much improved once the season kicks off.
