Texoma, a fishery for all seasons

I love striper fi shing at Texoma during the dead of winter, using oversized jigs to entice greedily feeding stripers that drive bait to the surface and eat like there is no tomorrow. The sight of a few hundred sea gulls dipping and diving over a several acres of feeding stripers is the stuff great fi shing memories are made. I also like catching them in midsummer during the fi rst few hours of the day when they are feeding upon shad that have completed their spawn and dispersed to the waters of the mid to lower lake.

Local softball teams square off for good cause

Members of Terrell State Hospital and the city of Terrell squared off on the diamond for a good cause at Ben Gill Park July 29, taking part in a charity game benefitting the Terrell Riter C. Hulsey Friends of the Library and Terrell State Hospital Volunteer Services Council.

First responders from Terrell Fire Department’s Engine 611 are credited with saving the life of 68-yearold Terrell resident, Andrew Truett on July 4, 2021. TFD’s Engine 611 received a call at 2:14 p.m.

The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced July 30 that U.S. Army Air Forces Tech. Sgt. Frank A. Norris, 23, of Quinlan, Texas, killed during World War II, was accounted for Jan. 19, 2021.

New county engineer now on board

Over the last few years, there are no more two-a-day practices allowed. Experts believe players die from heat exposure. What many people do not realize there is a need to practice in the heat because they play in the heat. Experts understand this but limit the number of practices because some coaches do not properly acclimate their players to the heat.
