Congratulations to the Terrell Speech and Debate students for their success at Melissa High School this past weekend. Varsity Policy Debaters: John Ory and Dalila Ramirez placed 3rd in the Varsity Division. Novice Policy Debaters: Jhovanny Alcantara and Ava Foren placed 3rd in the Novice Division. Beef cattle faring well going into fall, winter

TEXAS–Beef cattle prices and forage conditions have been much improved for Texas producers so far in 2021, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts. Texas beef cattle had plenty of grazing and producers put away above-average stocks of hay due to improved moisture levels around the state this summer.

This is homecoming season. Homecoming football games attract people from all aspects of life. Former players, students, faculty, and community citizens. Homecoming football games bring excitement and comradery, along with lots of people to the local stadium.

Alzheimer’s is a degenerative brain disease and is the most common form of dementia. It is not a normal process of aging. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. It kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

A TRIBUTE TO BERNARD DERRICK

Flanked by city and school dignitaries, family, friends and well-wishers, school Trustee Tonya Derrick snips the ceremonial ribbon as the Terrell ISD on Oct. 15 dedicated its Multipurpose Center to the memory of Tonya’s brother, Bernard Derrick. On Sept. 7, 1977, the young Terrell High football player tragically lost his life when he was struck by lightning on the practice field. His death raised awareness about the dangers of lightning for high school- and college-level athletic programs across the nation. The Multipurpose Center, which provides a safe practice facility for student athletes, was renamed the Bernard Derrick Multipurpose Center. COURTESY PHOTO

Mayor Rick Carmona presented a key to the City to Mayor Frances Anderson Tuesday in honor of her 94th birthday. Mayor Anderson has devoted decades to Terrell citizens in her roles as educator, elected official and volunteer. Interested in World War II?

For students and others interested in pursuing more information about World War II, the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum, will present “ Learning About World War Two: An Introduction” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the museum, 119 Silent Wings Blvd. in Terrell.
One of the most important meetings during World War II was in Casablanca in January 1943. Decisions made at the Casablanca Conference continue to impact the world today.
