Commissioners review fi re marshal’s role, duties

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court met for more than two hours on Tuesday morning, discussing a wide range of topics including monthly bookkeeping items as well as a propos-al to “implement a structure of a county fire marshal and deputy fire marshal and to move the office of the fire marshal into the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office.”

P�������� ���������������� ���� T������������ ISD The Terrell Tiger Band and Colorguard made its way to Mesquite last week, competing in the annual Mesquite Marching Contest. Terrell returned with plenty of accolades for their efforts at the event, with the Colorguard winning first place overall in the 4A classification and the Tiger Band finishing second overall in the 4A classification.

There is an old African proverb that says, “It takes a village to raise a child”. The essence of the proverb is more than one household generally contributes to the success of a child. Throughout my life, I have found time and time again, this is absolutely true. By extension, that proverb can also be applies to a community. It can easily and truthfully be said that it takes multiple groups to move a community forward, and there is no better example of that than right here in Terrell America.

County issues CWD notice

With deer season now underway, Kaufman County hunters need to be aware of a new requirement. Because of the neurological disease in deer found in this region of Texas called Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), hunters who harvest mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, red deer, or other CWD susceptible species within the Trans-Pecos, Panhandle, and South-Central Texas CWD Containment and Surveillance Zones are required to bring their animals to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) check station within 48 hours of harvest.
