Winners of Veterans Day student essay contest announced

On Nov. 11, the talents of high school writers from five different Kaufman County High Schools came to life through words as 32 students wrote about “What a Veteran is to Me.” The top three winners of the essay contest were announced at the Nov. 11 Veterans Day Ceremony at the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park, and their winning and moving essays were read aloud.

Governor encourages high schoolers to participate in CyberStart America

Governor Greg Abbott announced Texas high school students will have the opportunity to participate in Cyber-Start America, an innovative, online cybersecurity talent search and competition sponsored by the National Cyber Scholarship Foundation (NCSF) and the SANS Institute. CyberStart is open to all students in grades ninth - twelfth to explore their aptitude for cybersecurity and computer science.

O’Rourke announces run for governor

Beto O’Rourke, the former Democratic congressman from El Paso who came within 3 percentage points of defeating Ted Cruz in the 2018 race for the U.S. Senate, is running for governor, he announced this week.
