Fire marshal warns of dangerous conditions

Kaufman County area fire departments had their hands full June 13, responding to two separate fires that scorched more than 50 acres each. In light of the dangerous conditions, officials stressed the importance of following best practices whenever cutting and baling hay.

The Charles Butt Foundation, a non-profit pursuing a more equitable and prosperous future for all Texans through education and community partnerships, announced May 9 that it will sponsor educators from 54 district and charter schools across Texas to attend weeklong summer institutes at the Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

At age 15, Terrell High School junior Bridget Wilson, has made history by becoming the youngest credential coder in the American Academy of Professional Coders, an organization which has a membership of more than 200,000 people.

Back To School Donation Drive runs thru July 1

The Kaufman County Child Welfare Board and Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) are sponsoring a school supply donation drive from June 6 – July 1. West named WINGS Coordinator for library

When Lora West became the WINGS Adult Education Coordinator at Hulsey Public Library earlier this spring, she said she truly believed it was her opportunity to fly. A trained educator, West had spent the previous seven years working alongside her husband Brian as he served as pastor at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Elmo.

Adoption outreach launched as center reaches capacity

Kaufman County Purchasing Agent Raylan Smith kicked off an urgent adoption outreach effort at the Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court meeting on June 7 as she brought an adorable puppy named Morgan to meet the County Judge and Precinct Commissioners.
Kiwanis Club of Terrell held their regular meeting June 7. Kaufman County Judge Hal Richards shared information with members on a fiveyear financial plan for Kaufman County, transportation goals, building and facilities upgrades, and answered questions.
