Local Juneteenth event draws near

On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston with the news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free. This announcement came two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Procla-mation on September 22, 1862.

14th Annual Summer Reading Activities Fair

The Hulsey Public Library kicked off its Summer Reading Program in grand style June 7, hosting an activities fair that included snow cones, popcorn, two bounce houses, a fire truck and train rides. The theme for this year’s program is “Oceans of Possibilities” and includes activities for all ages through July 22, and concludes with a pool party for youth participants on July 23. This year’s reading program will include the return of many longtime favorites, including Little Listeners, Terrific Tuesdays, Art Academy, STEM Workshops, Teen Zone, and Family Movie Fridays. Adults and children can register for Summer Reading through Beanstalk, an online platform where registrants will log their reading time, track their progress and view the prizes they are eligible to claim. Forney PD involved in chase

On Friday, June 3 at approximately 2:42 a.m., the Forney Police received a report of a possible Burglary of a Motor Vehicle in the 500 block of Olive Trail. The caller believed someone was inside their vehicle after observing their Ring camera video. Officers were dispatched to the area.

Terrell ISD announces staffing changes

With gratitude, Terrell ISD announces the retirement of Stacey Ellis, a devoted Terrell ISD teacher, principal, and administrator. Ellis, who has faithfully served the students, staff, and families of Terrell ISD for 25 years will begin her retirement this September.

Church celebrates milestone anniversary

Elmo Church of God in Christ members celebrated a milestone event last week, recognizing the church’s 100 th anniversary during a special event held May 29. The church, located at 12057 County Road 316 in Terrell, began in May 1922 under the leadership of Elder W.W.

The Terrell Garden Club selected Mr. and Mrs. Debrow’s home located at 720 Griffith Avenue as its Yard of the Month for June. In addition to selecting a Yard of the Month, the Terrell Garden Club maintains a busy calendar that includes plant sales and fundraisers benefitting scholarship opportunities.
