Sales tax revenue collections continue to climb

DAVID KAPITAN Kaufman County cities continued to experience déjà vu when it comes to sales tax revenue collections according to the office of Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar. For the third consecutive month, all but one local city posted sales tax revenue when comparing against the same calendar month from the previous year.

Officials approve sheriff substation

Through a creative partnership with the Forney Independent School District, Kaufman County will soon begin construction on a new sheriff substation on the west side of the county in Forney. The proposed 9,780 square foot sub station will be located near North Forney High School on 15 acres of land donated by the Forney Independent School District and ground is expected to be broken within the next 60 days.

The Kaufman County Historical Commission (CHC) has been awarded a 2021 Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Historical Commission (THC). This annual award affirms Kaufman CHC appointees for managing well-rounded history and preservation-related programs that enrich Texas communities.

Those staffers have not been alone, however, as members of the Tiger Band have also been on site prepping for what is expected to be a busy fall marching season.

DAVID KAPITAN editor@terrelltribune.com Terrell will see a change to its leadership structure in the coming weeks with the expected appointment of a new council member to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Tim Royse in late July. Royse had filled a variety of roles in city leadership positions over the years, ultimately ascending to a spot on the council representing District 5 in 2016.

Terrell is no different, receiving requests from multiple developers on potential projects.

The Kaufman County A&M Club and Mothers Club together gave out $56,570 in scholarships to 54 Kaufman County students attending Texas A&M University this fall at the annual Kaufman County A&M Scholarship Banquet and Dinner held at the Kaufman Civic Center July 31. Julio’s Market catered the event.
