Abbott announces statewide plan banning use of TikTok

Governor Greg Abbott announced a statewide model security plan for Texas state agencies to address vulnerabilities presented by the use of TikTok and other software on personal and state-issued devices. Following the Governor’s directive, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Information Resources developed this model plan to guide state agencies on managing personal and state-issued devices used to conduct state business. Each state agency had until February 15, 2023 to implement its own policy to enforce this statewide plan.

Over-the-counter livestock antibiotics will require prescriptions

Don’t wait. Get to know your local veterinarian now and establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship if you expect to treat livestock in the future, as over-the-counter livestock antibiotics will soon require a prescription. That is the advice of a team of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts trying to help livestock owners who are used to going to the local feed store to buy some of their antibiotics and administer treatment themselves.

What is avian influenza?

Highly pathogenic avian influenza, HPAI, specifically, HPAI H5N1, sometimes commonly referred to as “bird flu,” is something that has affected almost everyone, whether they realize it or not. This is the virus that is causing disruptions in the poultry industry, triggering a price increase on eggs and other poultry products in the grocery store not felt since the last time the U.S.

Sales tax collection revenues increase 7.6 percent

The Texas State Comptroller’s Office delivered a welcome dose of good news to Kaufman County cities Feb. 9, announcing that 11 out of 13 local entities had seen sales tax revenue gains when comparing February 2023 totals against those reported in February 2022.

BRING DAD TO SCHOOL DAY

More than 200 dads attended W.H. Burnett Early Childhood Center’s “Bring Dad to School Day” event Feb. 9. Dads had the opportunity to observe their child’s classroom, participate in hands-on learning activities and watch their little one shine in the classroom. Dads then moved to the cafeteria where they learned what an important role they play in their little Tiger’s learning experience. Terrell ISD officials stated, “It was such an incredible, special morning and we thank all of the many daddy’s, father’s, papa’s and padres who showered the campus with their support.”
