Two inmates were charged with murder in the fentanyl overdoses at the Kaufman County jail that occurred Feb. 16.

A major accident involving multiple vehicles caused major delays on Interstate 20 in between Terrell and Canton Sunday afternoon. Engine 5501 of the Elmo Fire Department was driving by as the accident occurred March 10 and immediately started assessing the scene.

Between February 29 through March 3, 2024, a collaborative proactive policing effort involving the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Kaufman County Street Crimes Unit, Forney Police Department, Kaufman County Pct. 2 deputies, and the Kaufman County DA’s Office yielded significant results. During this three-day operation, law enforcement successfully recovered over $90,000 worth of stolen property (including a trailer filled with stolen mattresses), vehicles, and travel trailers.

REACH Child Placing Agency (REACH) will host their 5th Annual Casino Night on Friday, March 22, 2024 at The Establishment Barn in Terrell. REACH is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves and cares for abused and/or neglected children in crisis in Kaufman County.

Lone Star CASA celebrates a long-awaited adoption Lone Star CASA celebrates the adoption of Joey, a young boy who endured prolonged uncertainty in finding his forever home after almost four years in foster care. At just one year old, Joey entered foster care when it was determined that his home environment presented immediate danger to his safety.

During the Kaufman County Commissioners Court March 12 a workshop was held to discuss easements with Development Services Director Monique Hunter. The workshop was set during the previous meeting held March 5.

A solar physicist, recently retired from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will make a series of brief talks Monday, April 8 just prior to the eclipse at the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum in Terrell.
