On Friday, May 10, Trinity Valley Community College President Dr. Jason Morrison announced the recipients of the President’s Awards during the Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony at the Athens High School.
Development Manager Lone Star CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on Sunday, April 28, at the Parrish House prior to the launch of National Foster Care Month. This event served to celebrate and honor the dedication of CASA’s Volunteer Advocates who make a resounding difference in the lives of children facing abuse and neglect in our community as they navigate foster care and the legal system.

The Terrell ISD school board honored the Top 10 graduates of the Class of 2024 at their school board meeting Monday, May 20. School board members brought forward each Top 10 student, which included Evelyn Aviles, Colton Kohls, Antonio Armendariz, Grace Crabtree, Gage Soule, Kaylee Roseberry, Luis Velazquez, Ava Foren, Salutatorian Jesus Almanza and Valedictorian Jhovanny Alcantara.
Due to inclement weather, a substitute program was offered May 16 at the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum. The program was a screening of the Detroit PBS film “Saving the Willow Run Bomber Plant”.
As East Texas residents return to clean up their homes and businesses after extensive flooding earlier this month, the Texas Department of State Health Services urged residents and business owners to exercise caution.

Gold Star recognition is the membership recognition highest status any community affiliate can achieve.
awalker@cityofterrell.org City of Terrell staff member Erin Herndon graduated May 11 with a Master of Sacred Music degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. The ceremony was held at Highland Park United Methodist Church. She is the first student to complete an MSM degree from SMU with a concentration on Keyboards.
