editor@terrelltribune.com The 2026 May joint election and primary election came to an end after election day on Saturday, May 2 in Kaufman County with a single runoff in the Forney City Council race. In the City of Forney general election, Sarah Salgado and Joseph “Yaz” Yazdanpanahi are headed to a runoff next month for Place 4 on the council while Greg Helm took Place 6 on the council.

Terrell Police Department welcome their two newest officers to the department on Monday, May 4. Officer Kimberly Avalos and Officer Ethan Wagner recently graduated from the NCTCOG Basic Peace Officer Course (BCAPS) Class 313. Both have successfully completed their academy training and are beginning the next phase of their careers in law enforcement.

Forney ISD releases statement regarding allegations against teacher

Forney ISD Chief of Communications Kristin Zastoupil issued a press release May 4 regarding allegations of misconduct involving a Forney ISD teacher which read as follows: “While there is currently a multi-agency investigation underway, we have now been cleared to share the following information,” said Zastoupil.

The modern-day eastern turkey restocking program that began back in 1979 has been successful in some areas and somewhat of a bust in others. In earlier days, pen raised domestic birds were introduced in the wild without success. Biologists learned that live trapped wild birds were the key to success and by 2003 about 7,000 birds were released in east Texas, since the initial stockings, super stockings in areas with prime habitat seems to be succeeding.
