The Terrell Lady Tigers continued to chase their first district win of the season last week, crossing paths with talented opponents from Corsicana and Forney in District 14-5A play. Terrell first hit the field Corsicana squad also represented by the Lady Tiger mascot.

Early voting set to begin Monday

DAVID KAPITAN editor@terrelltribune.com The two month-long window between the close of candidate filing and the start of early voting will officially come to an end April 24 with one contested city council race on the ballot for local voters to consider. The filing period, which ran from mid-January to mid-February, proved to be relatively uneventful locally with only incumbents Ashley Carmona Fivecoat, Ann Kines McDonald and Dena Risinger returning candidate packets for a position on the Terrell ISD Board of Trustees.

Music, carnival highlight busy weekend

Ben Gill/Lions Club will be the place to be this weekend as The Terrell Chamber of Commerce/CVB will host its signature spring event, the Jubilee from April 20-23. The Terrell Jubilee features fun for the whole family with a state championship BBQ cook-off, 5K walk/run, Kids fun run, car show, arts and crafts vendors, quilt show, business and health expo, food vendors, kids zone, carnival and live entertainment all on tap.

Abbott announces statewide initiatives to fight fentanyl crisis

Governor Greg Abbott announced two major statewide initiatives to combat the growing national fentanyl crisis and save innocent lives in Texas during his One Pill Kills Summit in Austin. During a press conference following panel discussions, the Governor unveiled a new $10 million multimedia awareness initiative through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to educate Texans on how to prevent, recognize, and reverse fentanyl poisonings as part of the statewide “One Pill Kills” campaign. The Governor also announced the plan to distribute Naloxone (NARCAN) to all 254 Texas counties by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).
