FALLEN VETERANS HONORED AT CEREMONY
Body
Local dignitaries, elected officials and wartime heroes were among the guest speakers and presenters at this year’s Memorial Day program held May 30 at the Kaufman County Veterans’ Memorial Park located at 3800 S. Houston St. in Kaufman. Office of Veterans Services Director Robert Hunter served as the emcee for the memorial service, which was co-sponsored by the Friends of Kaufman County Veterans Park and the American Legion Post 165. The Vietnam Memorial Wall located in the park was dedicated 13 years ago in 2009 after it was retired from a tour across the nation. The wall was recently upgraded with lighting for people wanting to visit after sunset. The new lighting feature was unveiled at the Veterans’ Day Celebration on November 11, 2021. Also at that event, the MIA/POW Chair Monument was unveiled. This “empty” chair monument represents all veterans who did not make it back home from war and it will never be sat in by anyone until the last missing or captured veteran comes home. Courtesy photos
