Hulsey Public Library staffers Morgan Sisk (pictured) and Rebecca Sullivan spoke to members of the Terrell Kiwanis Club May 10 on the Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration held March 8. This year’s Dr. Seuss event, designed to encourage local children and community members to read, had 175 participants and 142 children in attendance. Retailers address court over firework sales

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court covered familiar ground this week, revisiting a potential allowance for fireworks sales in the lead up to Memorial Day. Citing the potential fire risk and solemnness of the occasion, court members had largely expressed a preference to not grant sales permits in Kaufman County for Memorial Day-related sales.

The Terrell athletic program was well represented at the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet in Austin last week with two competitors, sprinter Ja’Naria Jackson and shot put competitor Che’Merian Richmond, squaring off against some of the top athletes from across the state.

This year’s honorees included Schrildea Glover being named the 2021-‘22 Terrell ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year and Amanda Guthrie being named 2021-’22 Terrell ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. North Texas Antique Tractor Show set for June 11-12

The North Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Club’s Show, Pull and Swap meet will be held Saturday and Sunday June 11-12 at Ben Gill Park in Terrell. The show hours are Saturday, June 13 – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ages eight and under get into the event for free. Admission for age nine and up is $5. The event will consist of small engine displays, tractor parade, tractor display, antique tractor pulls and a kiddie obstacle course. A dinner provided for exhibitors will be provided Saturday night.
