Texas Woman’s University to host Pioneer Preview Day Mar. 26

Texas Woman’s University will host Pioneer Preview Day — an open house event for potential first-year students — from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 26, on the university’s Denton campus. Various sessions and events will take place throughout the day, including a panel discussion with current TWU students. Information sessions will cover a variety of topics including admissions, housing, financial aid and scholarships. Prospective students and their families also will have the opportunity to participate in a campus tour. Prospective students could win $1,000 to go toward Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 tuition and fees at TWU. Awards will be presented during a drawing to one first-year student at Pioneer Preview Day. Students must be eligible for admission to TWU to claim the award and must be present for the drawing to win. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. in the Student Union at Hubbard Hall on Administration Drive. Methodist Day School of Terrell celebrated Texas Independence Day on March 10, with a good old-fashioned Hoedown and Western Day. Texas Independence Day is March 2 and marks the day that Texas gained its independence from Mexico.

Court reviews potential outdoor rec facility

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court covered familiar ground this week, revisiting a pair of potential large-scale projects aimed at making the local community safer. Prior to discussing those items, the court opened its weekly business by approving the deputization of Gary Prox for the Precinct 3 Constable’s Office and Timothy Jordan for the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office.

The Terrell Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau and Terrell Economic Development Corporation rolled out the red carpet last week, recognizing citizens and businesses that make the city a better place to live, work and play at the annual Industrial Recognition Luncheon March 10.

The Terrell High School Student Council was named the “Sweepstakes” council - the highest attainable award at the Texas Association of Student Council’s Regional Spring Conference for the fourth consecutive year. In order to obtain this status THS STUCO achieved “Outstanding” level in all four reporting areas, including pride and patriotism, energy and environment, drug awareness, safety and health, and overall student council, in addition to an acknowledgment of fine community service. STUCO Sponsor John Bonadurer commended his students for this distinguished award stating, “This is truly a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the student council members and a distinction which they have now accomplished for a fourth year in a row.” Courtesy photo
