The Kaufman County A&M Club awarded $50,000 in scholarships on July 31 to area Aggies attending the College Station campus in the fall, along with $4,400 awarded by the Kaufman County A&M Mothers’ Club. August 7, 1852 On this day in 1852, Alexander Cockrell paid $7,000 for the portion of the John Neely Bryan homestead that included the Dallas townsite and the Trinity River ferry concession. Bryan, a Tennessee native born in 1810, had settled at a natural ford on the east bank of the Trinity in 1841.

State sales tax revenue totaled $3.4 billion in July

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.39 billion in July, 13.5 percent more than in July 2020. The majority of July sales tax revenue is based on sales made in June and remitted to the agency in July.“

Commissioners close in on budget, tax rate

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court continued to inch closer towards its adoption of a budget and tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year, setting up public hearings at its most recent meeting held Tuesday morning.

New county engineer now on board

Garrett Moore, hit the ground running in Kaufman County as the new County Engineer in July, and will be in the Development Services Department doing all things Engineering. “We are so excited to have an engineer on our staff,” said Monique Hunter, Development Services Director.
