Tonya Derrick will officially be sworn into her position at the next Terrell ISD School Board meeting on Monday, May 17 at the Jamie Foxx Performing Arts Center. Derrick, who defeated Pat Martin 285-62 in the May 1 election, assumes the District 3 seat held by Lisa Asher, the current school board vice president.

During the North Texas Colorguard Circuit, a virtual contest held in March, the Terrell High School Winterguard team placed fourth overall for the Round 2 Scholastic A. Terrell ISD was the only 4A district to place in the top eight teams, ranking among 6A districts. Donna Huerta Simmons has been named communications and economic development coordinator for Kaufman County. Simmons has more than three decades of experience in government communications and economic development promotion.

Making history this year, the Terrell High School One Act Play advanced to the Bi-District competition for the first time with their play “The Marriage of Bette and Boo,” directed by Amanda Guthrie and Brant Davis. Darrell Hobbs of Kaufman is a new member of the American Angus Association, Mark McCully, CEO of the national breed organization, announced last week. The American Angus Association, headquartered in Saint Joseph, Mo., has more than 25,000 active adult and junior members.
