The Texas State Comptroller’s Office delivered a welcome bit of good news to Kaufman County city leaders this week, announcing that 11 out of 13 local entities have shown sales tax revenue gains when comparing April 2022 against those posted during the same calendar month from the previous year.

The week began on a tragic note during the early morning hours April 4 with first responders dispatched to the intersection of FM 2728 and Highway 80 in the far eastern portion of Kaufman County for a two-vehicle accident.

Terrell continues to be at the center of news with U.S. Census Bureau population estimates released this week citing Kaufman as the county with the highest percentage of growth in the nation. Between 2020 and 2021, Kaufman County grew 7.34 percent, with the population increasing from 146,986 to 157,768.

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court kept things short and sweet Tuesday morning, breezing through a relatively light agenda in under 20 minutes. The key topic of discussion for members of the court centered on a professional services agreement between Kaufman County and HDR related to local infrastructure improvements.
