The Kaufman County Commissioners Court turned its focus towards the upcoming election cycle March 22, approving an agreement to join Forney ISD in purchasing additional voting equipment. Prior to discussing voting related matters, commissioners opened their weekly business by hearing a request from Lone Star CASA Executive Director Lauren Rowe to designate April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month in Kaufman County.

In 2019, Kaufman County voters put their support behind a bond measure designed to improve existing infrastructure countywide. Another element of those efforts will be unveiled in the coming week with the newly constructed Kaufman County Pet Adoption Center, located at 1904 US 175 in Kaufman, set to open its doors April 5 for a special grand opening/ open house event.

Local shoppers may feel like they have stepped into a time warp this weekend with several businesses announcing their participation in National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day. Themed locally as Happy Days in Terrell, the event is designed to encourage support of the local business community.

This system enables us to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods.

The Terrell Lady Tigers took care of business last week, wrapping up the program’s first-ever district title. Coach Joe Stephens noted, “Our Lady Tigers have dominated in district all year.
