James Arthur Marsh
1943-2026
James Arthur Marsh, 82, of Poetry, a distinguished leader, devoted family man, and passionate collector of fossils, went to his heavenly home on May 8, 2026, in Waco. Born on August 10, 1943, in Corpus Christi, James lived a life marked by commitment, strength, and compassion.
A graduate of the Class of 1961 from South Oak Cliff High School. In 1964 James joined the Naval Reserves where he served with honor as a loadmaster for the United States Naval Air Force and a brief time in Vietnam. Concurrently with his military service, James pursued his professional journey as a United States Postal supervisor, as well as a trade show supervisor. Retiring from the Navy and Postal Service in the late 80’s. After retiring he continued as trade show supervisor until nearly his 80’s. His commitment to fairness and representation was evidenced by his instrumental role as a union leader, representing two unions with unwavering resolve.
James married Mary Ellen Coomes on February 25, 1966, a marriage that endured until her passing on September 13, 2022. Together, they forged a family rooted in Christ and mutual respect.
Known for his engaging and strong presence, James was not only a dedicated worker – often working three jobs at once – but also a man who cherished the outdoors. Camping was among his favorite pastimes, and his interest in geology led him to become an avid fossil collector, a hobby that brought him joy and a connection to the natural world.
He is survived by his son, James Christopher Marsh, and wife JoAnn; his daughter-in-law, Deborah Marsh; grandchildren Nathan Marsh, Cody and Cynthia Marsh, and Noah Marsh; and great-grandchildren Cody, Abigail, and Charlie. Their lives were deeply enriched by James’s wisdom, guidance, and enduring love. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Marsh; his son Jason Reed Marsh; his parents, James Forrest Marsh and Dorothy Hellen White Marsh; and his grandson, Daniel Christopher Marsh.
The community will gather to honor his memory with a visitation on May 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Both services will be held at Mullin- Fuller Funeral Home, located at 205 Corky Boyd Ave in Wills Point.
James Arthur Marsh’s legacy is one of leadership, resilience, and heartfelt humanity—a man who dedicated his life to his church, family, and the pursuits that inspired him. He will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
