Mary Reed Goree
1926-2025
Mary Reed Goree passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025 in Tyler. She was born Dec. 16, 1926 in Rochester, TX to John Roland and Amanda Reed, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, Eugene “Gene” Goree and her siblings: Edna, Margaret, Elizabeth, and John along with her nieces and nephews including James (Jimmy) Wadle and Melvin Eugene Wadle.
She spent her younger years in Corsicana, TX but she lived in many other North Texas cities including Ft. Worth, Dallas, Irving, and Grand Prairie. Mary had a strong spirit of independence and entrepreneurship that allowed her to be successful at the many endeavors in her lifetime. She met, and married, her best friend, Gene Goree, who was also a kindred spirit in selfmotivation and seeing opportunities in every situation. Together, she and Gene purchased houses to renovate and sell as well as several small businesses and land, each of which combined to provide a history of investment success. Mary also had an amazing talent for bookkeeping and organization, and she worked in many positions in administration operations including becoming CFO for Glover Machine, Co. in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. In her spare time, she was an avid crafter, especially custom pottery creations where Mary created and fired pottery with the kiln she owned at home. She and Gene moved to Terrell after buying a ranch of over 100 acres to retire and enjoy a slower paced lifestyle together. After Gene’s passing, Mary moved to town in Terrell where she remained active in her nieces and nephews lives and enjoyed making memories with the many friends she had made. She was a woman who stood firm on her achievements while still being kindhearted to all who met her, and Mary will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her nephews: John Calvin (JC) Reed, John Vaught and fiancée, Dolores, and John Weylin Vaught, along with many other lifetime friends and colleagues.
