TVFD responds to early morning call

Members of the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department had their hands full during the early morning hours July 8, responding to an illegal burn that got out of control and threatened nearby homes. According to a narrative published on the TVFD Facebook page, firefighters were dispatched just before 1 a.m.

Burglary suspects sought by Terrell PD

The Terrell Police Department took to social media this week, requesting the public’s assistance in identifying two females suspected of stealing items from a business located on American Way. In a Facebook post department officials stated, “On July 7, 2022 at approximately 1639 hours, two Hispanic females entered Ulta located at 670 American Way in Terrell.

County flood map finalized

New flood maps have been finalized and will become effective on Jan. 12, 2023, for Kaufman County, Texas. During the next six months, a FEMA compliance specialist will work with the community to update each floodplain ordinance and adopt these new flood maps.

Postage rates to change July 10

Postage rates will rise again on July 10. Periodicals published the week of July 11 will see rates rise between 7 and 10 percent, depending upon destinations, mail preparation and rate categories.

STAAR test results improve statewide

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released spring 2022 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results for Grades 3-8. The results include exams in mathematics and reading for grades 3–8, 5th and 8th grade science, and 8th grade social studies. This year’s STAAR results show across-the-board improvements in all grades and subjects from 2021, with significant gains in reading.
