The Kiwanis Club of Terrell hosted its regularly scheduled weekly meeting July 19, and welcomed Patty Yocum of Terrell as its newest member. Kiwanis, the largest service club, has clubs in most countries around the world. Anyone interested in becoming a member may find them on Facebook or their website.

Texas Beef Cattle Short Course set for August 2-4

The Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course is held each year during the first week of August and has grown into one of the largest beef cattle educational events in the world. Each year over 1,800 beef cattle ranchers from Texas and across the U.S. travel to attend the event that features over 20 different concurrent sessions and a trade show with more than 120 vendors.

Grant applications being accepted for the 2023-‘24 year

United Way of Kaufman County will be conducting it annual Agency Grant reviews in February 2023. How did your civic engagement lead to your volunteer roll in municipal government? Over the years, I enjoyed being a soccer coach, baseball coach, TARA youth baseball board member, voice of the Fighting Tiger Band, Band Parent VP, Band Parent President, voice of Terrell Tiger baseball, Terrell Athletic Booster, THS Cheer Booster and Terrell Parks board member; I was clearly hooked on civic engagement in Terrell . After years of volunteering in youth sports, I joined the parks board in 2014.

Suspect arrested on possession of child pornography charges

On Wednesday, July 20, at approximately 8:20 a.m., detectives with the Forney Police Department executed a search warrant on a residence in the 1500 block of Wyler Drive in Forney. The search warrant was obtained following an investigation of alleged possession of child pornography.

Mabank illegal gaming bust produces eight arrests

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the Mabank Police Department participated in a joint investigation that led to the arrest of eight individuals in connection with illegal gaming. Hayley Phillips, 17, of Gun Barrel City, Sandra Darlene Pergeson, 49, of Gun Barrel City, Syed-Arshad Hussain, 50, of Lewisville, Tristyn Lynne Mills, 24, of Kemp, Muhammad Adnan, 33, of Forney and Kassondra Shenae Jonas, 32, of Kemp are charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, possession of a gambling device, gambling promotion and keeping a gambling place.

TxDOT to host public meetings on proposed projects

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing improvements to US 80 (from Farm to Market Road 460 to Spur 557) and Spur 557 (from US 80 to I-20), a total length of approximately 12.1 miles in Kaufman County. TxDOT will be conducting an in-person and online virtual public meeting on the proposed project.
