Class of 2022 bids farewell to THS

The Terrell High School Class of 2022 made the transition from students to graduates May 27, participating in commencement exercises at Memorial Stadium. The senior class, led by Valedictorian Jayla Thomas, Salutatorian Karla Landa Perez, and other honor and high honor graduates, began filing their way around the track and onto the field shortly before 8 p.m. to the traditional playing of “Pomp and Circumstance” as family members, friends and TISD staffers cheered their every step.

Court hears quarterly election report

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court wrapped up its monthly business May 31, tackling an agenda heavy on bookkeeping items. County Judge Hal Richards opened Tuesday’s meeting on a somber note, recognizing the May 26 passing of Kaufman County Tax Assessor-Collector Brenda Samples.

The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department conducted a unique operation June 1, rescuing a puppy that had fallen into a septic tank at a residence along County Road 301. According to the TVFD account of the incident, firefighters were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. after receiving a call from a worried homeowner.

Santiago to head up elementary campus

The baton of leadership was passed from Dr. Tracie Pritchett to Aleix Santiago at the Dr. Bruce Wood Elementary staff meeting on Friday, May 27, 2022. Dr. Pritchett, who has served as the Principal for Dr. Bruce Wood Elementary since 2017 will transition into the role of Director of GLA/Coordinator of Advanced Academics K-8 in the 2022-‘23 school year. “As we work to continue grow-ing our advanced academic programming and provide more choice opportunities for families in Terrell, we are excited that Dr. Pritchett has stepped up to take on this new leadership role,” said Dr. Georgeanne Warnock, Superintendent of Schools.

DPS reminds drivers to buckle up, drive safely

Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer, and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reminding drivers to celebrate safely as they enjoy their holiday. Today through May 30, the Texas Highway Patrol will participate in Click It or Ticket, as well as Operation CARE (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort).

The soon-to-be grads were dressed in their caps and gowns as they navigated the hallways of each district campus. Local man dies in multi-vehicle accident

A three-vehicle accident along State Highway 276 resulted in the death of a Terrell man earlier this week. According to law enforcement officials, first responders were summoned shortly after 5 p.m. May 24 to an area just east of Rochelle Road in Rockwall for an automobile accident with potentially serious injuries.
