Republican lawmakers in Texas are pushing to enact substantial changes to state voting laws, which include new restrictions on how and when voters can cast ballots. Senate Bill 7, a legislative priority for Lt.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said early this week that the state Senate did not have enough votes to pass legislation that would allow the carry of handguns without a permit. Patrick, however, said he would try to advance the legislation if he sees a path forward.
