U.S. Marshals, FBI urge public to report phone scams

The U.S. Marshals and the FBI are alerting the public of several nationwide imposter scams involving individuals claiming to be U.S. marshals, court officers, or other law enforcement officials. They are urging people to report the calls their local FBI office and file a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which has the ability to detect patterns of fraud from the information collected and share that data with law enforcement.

Midwestern State University announces spring honor rolls Midwestern State University recognized 1,040 honor students for the Spring 2022 semester. The President’s Honor Roll included 426 students, the Provost’s Honor Roll included 284 students and the Dean’s Honor Roll included 330 students.

The Terrell athletic program was well represented at the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet in Austin last week with two competitors, sprinter Ja’Naria Jackson and shot put competitor Che’Merian Richmond, squaring off against some of the top athletes from across the state.

Retailers address court over firework sales

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court covered familiar ground this week, revisiting a potential allowance for fireworks sales in the lead up to Memorial Day. Citing the potential fire risk and solemnness of the occasion, court members had largely expressed a preference to not grant sales permits in Kaufman County for Memorial Day-related sales.

Hulsey Public Library staffers Morgan Sisk (pictured) and Rebecca Sullivan spoke to members of the Terrell Kiwanis Club May 10 on the Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration held March 8. This year’s Dr. Seuss event, designed to encourage local children and community members to read, had 175 participants and 142 children in attendance.
