The U.S. Marshals and the FBI are alerting the public of several nationwide imposter scams involving individuals claiming to be U.S. marshals, court officers, or other law enforcement officials. They are urging people to report the calls their local FBI office and file a consumer complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which has the ability to detect patterns of fraud from the information collected and share that data with law enforcement.

Midwestern State University announces spring honor rolls Midwestern State University recognized 1,040 honor students for the Spring 2022 semester. The President’s Honor Roll included 426 students, the Provost’s Honor Roll included 284 students and the Dean’s Honor Roll included 330 students.

The field of contenders for several statewide offices, including Attorney General and Comptroller of Public Accounts, will get whittled down this week with this year’s Republican and Democratic Primary Runoff Elections slated for May 24.

Terrell ISD held its annual Evening of Excellence event at The French Soiree May 11, recognizing retirees, campus teachers of the year and district teachers of the year. This year’s honorees included Schrildea Glover being named the 2021-‘22 Terrell ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year and Amanda Guthrie being named 2021-’22 Terrell ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year. The Terrell athletic program was well represented at the Class 4A State Track and Field Meet in Austin last week with two competitors, sprinter Ja’Naria Jackson and shot put competitor Che’Merian Richmond, squaring off against some of the top athletes from across the state.

The Kaufman County Commissioners Court covered familiar ground this week, revisiting a potential allowance for fireworks sales in the lead up to Memorial Day. Citing the potential fire risk and solemnness of the occasion, court members had largely expressed a preference to not grant sales permits in Kaufman County for Memorial Day-related sales.

The BFTS Museum was honored to have a visit from Richard Hyde, Her Britannic Majesty’s Consul-General in Houston on April 26. He was accompanied by Tim Cork, Deputy Consul General.

Hulsey Public Library staffers Morgan Sisk (pictured) and Rebecca Sullivan spoke to members of the Terrell Kiwanis Club May 10 on the Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration held March 8. This year’s Dr. Seuss event, designed to encourage local children and community members to read, had 175 participants and 142 children in attendance. Nathaniel Lyons, a Terrell native, passed away in a Dallas hospital on May 10, 2022. Services were as follows: Funeral was held on Friday, May 20th at 11 a.m.
